Finite element updating
Seismology is the scientific study of earthquakes and the propagation of elastic waves through the Earth or through other planet-like bodies.
The field also includes studies of earthquake effects, such as tsunamis as well as diverse seismic sources such as volcanic, tectonic, oceanic, atmospheric, and artificial processes (such as explosions).

A model updating procedure for developing a finite element model for the Seohae Bridge is proposed.
This study presents a finite element model updating technique which can address the issue of varying environment including temperature variation and boundary condition changes.
The updated finite element model is producing results more consistent with the measurement outcomes.
Wind turbine blades must be designed to resist the extreme load cases and fatigue loads from normal operation.
In control engineering, the field of system identification uses statistical methods to build mathematical models of dynamical systems from measured data.
System identification also includes the optimal design of experiments for efficiently generating informative data for fitting such models as well as model reduction.
